As sustainability and environmental considerations become increasingly important, the renovation of existing buildings is gaining prominence. It presents a valuable opportunity to conserve resources while adapting historic structures for modern use. The key is not only to modernise the aesthetics but also to update the functionality, energy efficiency and safety standards of these buildings. The challenge lies in upgrading these buildings with care and precision, preserving their original charm and character – a delicate balance requiring skill and attention to detail.

SIMONSWERK combines functionality and design

The Art gallery in Bremen and the Museum of the Bavarian Kings in Hohenschwangau are impressive examples of how historic buildings can be thoughtfully renovated and, where needed, expanded. Particular attention was given to the finer details: SIMONSWERK’s hinge systems ensure the highest levels of functionality while seamlessly blending into these historically significant spaces.

Art gallery Bremen

The Art gallery in Bremen, home to an outstanding art collection spanning from the 14th to the 21st century, has been a listed building since 1977. Over the years, it has undergone several renovations, with the latest being a stylish extension completed in 2011.

For this modernisation, the VARIANT VX hinge system was chosen, offering a load capacity of up to 400kg, three-dimensional adjustability and maintenance-free slide bearing technology. It is ideally suited for use on fire safety doors, smoke protection doors and emergency exit doors, where reliability and safety are paramount.

Museum of the
Bavarian Kings

Opened in 2011 to mark the 125th anniversary of King Ludwig II’s death, the Museum of the Bavarian Kings in Hohenschwangau occupies a historic building dating back to 1780. A comprehensive renovation and extension, led by Staab Architects from Berlin, transformed the building into a 1,000 m² space that showcases the history of the Wittelsbach dynasty.

Here too, SIMONSWERK’s VARIANT VX hinges were selected to meet both functional and aesthetic demands. With the perfectly coordinated unit of hinge, receivers and cover, VARIANT VX creates a harmonious look for every door.

Innovative hinge solutions
for renovation projects

When renovating, doors must also meet modern requirements for fire protection, soundproofing and security. SIMONSWERK provides ideal solutions: alongside the VARIANT‎ VX hinge system, VARIANT‎ Compact is perfect for renovation projects, allowing hinges to be offset within the door leaf so existing frames can be reused, saving both time and money.

The KEEP‎ CLOSED handle solution offers an intuitive, maintenance-free alternative to traditional door locks, combining ease of use with a sleek, minimalist design.
