In the picturesque region of Südburgenland, Austria, surrounded by gentle hills and untouched nature, lies the luxurious hotel complex "Reiters Reserve", originally established in the 1980s. The complex includes both the four-star "Finest Family" hotel and the five-star "Supreme" hotel. The renowned architectural office of BEHF Architects designed the Reiters Reserve Premium Suites for the “Supreme” hotel in 2023, creating modern and sustainable retreat venues for unforgettable stays.

The design of these new suites is inspired by the hotel's philosophy, which brings harmony between people and nature and the respectful use of resources to the centre of attention. "Due to this unique philosophy, values such as honesty, innovation and modesty played a central role in the design," explains Stephan Ferenczy – Architect, Co-Founder & Managing Director Vienna-based architectural office BEHF Architects.

Sustainable and
high-quality

The look of new suites is defined by premium, eco-friendly natural materials. "Essentially, the entire interior, including the walls and floors, is made from sustainably grown solid timber (ash) sourced from neighbouring regions," says Stephan Ferenczy. Clay plaster, natural stone, and cork are also integral features of the interiors, significantly shaping the spaces while creating a pleasant, inviting atmosphere.

The design is minimalistic, characterised by timeless colours and a clear, straightforward aesthetic. The suites were created by merging smaller rooms, resulting in functional and open spaces that can be expanded as needed. Features like a bathtub in the living room, a hidden kitchenette and a wooden sports wall are just some of the thoughtful elements that offer guests maximum comfort and flexibility.

The ‘Ofuro’, a traditional Japanese soaking tub integrated into one of the three window bays, overlooking a breathtaking view of the expansive landscape is without doubt a highlight of the hotel's largest suite.

Precision and elegance down
to the last detail

The doors formed a key aspect of the new suite design, as they offer versatile solutions for partitioning and accessing the rooms. Floor-to-ceiling doors made from solid ash were used – this in itself presented unique challenges when it came to the hinges. The doors did not need to serve just a functional purpose, they were to also elegantly underscore the minimalist concept.

One of the challenges of this project was to create floor-to-ceiling doors from solid wood that convey an elegant and fluid look while also concealing all the hinges.

The perfect couple:
TECTUS from SIMONSWERK

The choice ultimately fell on the premium TECTUS hinge system, which combines precision in design and technology. Flush and linear, the completely concealed hinge system integrates perfectly into the minimalist design concept of the Reiters Reserve Premium Suites, creating a seamless surface when the ten doors are closed. In addition to its sleek aesthetics, TECTUS impresses with its high functionality, which Thomas Wilfinger really appreciates, "These lightweight hinges are remarkably easy to adjust and in terms of everyday use, their smooth and effortless handling really sets them apart."

Convincingly versatile

TECTUS is available in a variety of load capacities and sizes, making it perfect for timber entrance doors. It meets the demands of this natural and eco-friendly material, showcasing it beautifully in these meticulously designed spaces. The wide range of finishes also provides maximum design flexibility.

The Matte Black finish was chosen for the Reiters Reserve Premium Suites, creating a stylish contrast to the light timber and its natural grain. With its numerous advantages, the TECTUS hinge system is an ideal choice for this and many other projects. Thomas Wilfinger concludes, "We've had lots of positive experiences with this hinge system and will continue to use it in the future. TECTUS is known for its high quality and excellent track record."

An exceptional
experience

The combination of sustainability, minimalism and modern technology in the Reiters Reserve Premium Suites creates a unique atmosphere that meets the highest standards, offering guests a relaxing and luxurious stay. The first two suites were completed in March 2023, and the design is currently being applied to ten further suites. Additionally, the project won first place in the audience award of the Heinze Architektur Awards 2023 and the Callwey Award for "The Most Beautiful Restaurants, Hotels & Bars 2024" in the category "Hotel".
